Hello all! Just joined up and thought I'd get opinions on this thought: does being gay make us more accepting of/attracted to horror? What I mean is: since being gay makes us "deviant", "outsiders", "alternative", whatever, does that make us more prone to seek out art that is labelled the same? And since horror is the ultimate in "deviant" art, are we more attracted to it than straights because we can relate to the "monster" more? Just wondering what anyone else thought...

I quite enjoyed Otto (much as I enjoy most of LaBruce's stuff). Whilst a little disppointed by the rather tame sex scenes, I thought it was beautifully filmed and definitely his most commercial piece to date.

Other than the attractive men he fills his films with, there isn't really much else to redeem his work. I also get kind of annoyed that he seems incapable of making them simply gay films instead of throwing some women in the mix and making them simply "homoerotic".

Sex, as they say, sells, so you gotta have some in the films. And if you're trying to attract the gay viewers, it's going to need to be explicit. I'd say take a look at Bruce LaBruce's films for that aspect of it.

As has already been said, don't do campy. It's been overdone, and it's just plain boring. I can only speak for myself, but I want to watch real guys dealing with real horror. Not screaming queens.

And I'd say don't give up on the "old fashioned", psycho-horror. If done properly, it can work!

Good luck with all your future projects!

Argento used to be a god. Susperia, Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebrae...pure delights. His later films, tho, have really gone down hill. The Third Mother was pretty much a disaster. It's quite sad that his output has declined as much as it has, but at least his earlier stuff can still be enjoyed!

Stay away from doing campy. Some humor is ok but too many campy gay horror already....

Do some old fashioned Slasher flicks. Think Michael Myers & Jason. We've got zombies & ghost stories but Hellbent is the really only serious gay slasher film.

Show some skin & full frontal nudity!

Don't make it sociopolitical preachy. Stay away from the new cliche....too many lately focus motive on the bad guy (girl) being some right wing conservative or religious fanatic. It's tired, predictable and you know it the second they come on screen.

Hi Fellow Horror & Sci-fi Fans,

I have always been a huge Horror/Sci-fi fan, starting with Michael Myers and Jason in the 80’s (actually with Peter Cushing and Chris Lee).

My film production team is revamping, and I need your input on gay horror movies. What you would like to see, if there is a big enough audience.

We tried one feature a few years ago titled “When Darkness Falls/The Best of Care" - a 2-story deal, but discovered we should have added more horror, gore and sexual situations. Our funding was low and we were going for an old-fashioned more ghost-type feeling. However, after the reviews came I knew what we did wrong in today’s world.

We're starting a series of horror movies and planning on doing them right this time, starting with a zombie flick in the tradition of Return of the Living Dead (1985). We will continue alternating films between our romance-dramas and horror, and are beefing up the films to release 2-3 per year starting 2012.

With so much crap out there these days, we need to get back to the solid horror films. I want to hear your comments, ideas, target-markets, whatever you can tell me and my team and we promise to make it happen.

Feel free to post this topic on facebook or wherever you want, but make sure I know where to read comments.

Thanks,
Jeff

It was an interesting movie, the first 'splatter gore' movie I've ever seen. Army of Darkness was a comedy horror movie, but DMTH had a more Loony Toons feel to the violence. The story was okay, but the main character wasn't likable or hatable enough for me to care what happened to her.

Funny, my friends and I just had a scream queen / trash-a-thon with a few DeCoteau films in the mix. -> Nightmare Sisters(adore), Creepozoids(mediocre - gotta love Quigley's deadpan delivery), and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama(quite keen on). I'd seen most of these on USA Up All Nite almost two decades ago. I'm 28 now, BTW - a rare breed through exposures. This was his PRIME, in my opinion.

Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge - > Had a hard-on for this one. C'mon. Nazis and killer puppets? Instantaneous love. Maybe it was the introduction of six-shooter? Leech Woman got more on-screen time? I eat up all Puppet Master films. No, this was the last I really enjoyed.

I've given the Brotherhood a shot a long tick ago but gave up on it. Admittedly, the guys are uber sizzlin eye candy, but it's just not as cornball fun without bimbos, y'know? It's the current disc we have from Netflix, my roommate and I. We'll get through it one of these days. I purchase and download movies at such a rapid rate that I'm sure hundreds will go unwatched. Yes, I purchase what I download if it's good enough by my standards(and they aren't that high - look at the subject matter here)

Every other film I've strapped on of his was a failure. Witchouse, Final Stab, Prison of the Dead... unfortunately. My two cents.

Was introduced to this flick by a friend right before ads for the Angelina Jolie started popping up. Enjoyed it too and can see how it would leave an indelible mark on your psyche. Something about it being in the country in winter grabbed me...probably b/c I spent most of my youth in Maine. All the actors were very good and very memorable. Good movie.
