The Orphanage

Anyone out there appreciate this film? This Del Toro film took me to a different level of horror and despair. It's not for the meek, but I loved it. I am enchanted by the way it meanders along, deliberately testing you. What this film should perhaps be heralded for is the way it mixes up emotions- one minute you're in suspense, the next you are dragged over to a completely different set of emotions. While that may not be a new concept, I think this was carried through beautifully.
Any fans of Most Haunted would probably like it. Be prepared for more than the usual offerings of subliminal horror. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, well, this one takes it to the next level. It has the same sort of feeling, but less "fantastic" and more cerebral. That's my opinion. Cheers, ni
