So my brother and I just got done watching this and we looked at each other and said we need to do something happy... NOW. Haha. Great movie, wasn't as much of a gore fest as I assumed it would be but the gore parts were exceptionally well done.

Hey everyone, I'm Johnny. I thought this would be a good place to post this link as I am a filmmaker (horror/cinema of transgression/underground style/genre). This is a demo reel of some of my work. It contains horror elements combined with unstereotypical gay guys and heavy metal, which I use in all aspects of my work being a queer metalhead and all.
I figured "gay guys into horror films" would be an okay place to post it seeing that it is on topic here.
The clip is about two and a half minutes long and it does not automatically play (you gotta press the play button)

Growing up gay, with horror ...

Hey there! I'm new to this Tribe and I've been trying to catch up on all the great discussion topics. I haven't seen much talk on any of those great-ish 80's underground horror flicks yet, particularly anything of a decidedly homo-erotic nature.

One that always stands out, in my mind, is 'Basket Case' ... early 80's, directed by Frank Henenlotter. Not a particulary well acted film, as I recall (How many of them really were?), but dark and gritty, with a rather bizarre plot-line about a young man separated from his siamese-twin brother ... that he carries around with him in a wicker basket. The brother is really nothing more than a murderous lump of hideously deformed, [rubber] flesh.

I've always remembered the scene of the young, main character being pursued down a dark street ... showing full frontal nudity! Full male nudity was, sady, never properly exploited in horror films. And, to a gay, teenage, punk kid, starved for homo-erotic eye candy, it was a near boner popping experience!

I remember a FFN shot near the opening of 'Ghost Story', as well, when Alice Krige's ghostly apparition forces a guy through the window of a high-rise, plummeting backwards to his death. That was one creepy chick, even without the ghostly apparition ... supplied by Dick Smith! I might be wrong, but I think this is the same woman that played the Borg Queen in 'Star Trek: First Contact'.

Does anybody have any other fond memories of growing up gay, with horror films?

Black Christmas (1974)

My friend Jordan tells me it's a terrific underrated classic, released just two months after the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre (my personal pic for the greatest film of ANY genre ever made). I guess it was the precursor to Halloween (and superior to it, by some accounts) and A Stranger Calls, among others. I just got it on DVD (25th Anniversary edition) from Movie Madness and am about to watch it. Any comments? I was very surprised I'd never heard of it until recently. I'd always thought of Halloween as the first Slasher movie (Chain Saw to me is more of a nightmare/gothic fairy tale/demented work of art than a slasher) but Black Christmas predates it by four years.

By the way I'm glad this tribe exists because if it didn't I would have to start it.

Oh, and anyone who wants to send me some horror writings for the new literature/arts magazine DRECk which i'm starting, please do so! Now accepting submissions for the first issue. Fellow queer horror fans would be especially nice to have on board.

I picked this up purely for the eye candy, and it was delicious. It was pretty much frat house campy but the four (five) young witch guys where shaved and ripped, liked swimming in speedo type suits, and have horrible dreams dipped in baby oil.

Not bad for the horror factor.....well, ok it wasn't great, but some of the effects where well done and I jumped here and there.
After hitching a ride to Berlin and nesting in an abandoned amusement park, he begins to explore the city. Soon he is discovered by underground filmmaker Medea Yarn, who begins to make a documentary about him with the support of her girlfriend, Hella Bent, and her brother Adolf, who operates the camera. Meanwhile, Medea is trying to finish "Up with Dead People," the epic political-porno-zombie movie that she has been working on for years. She convinces its star, Fritz Fritze, to allow the vulnerable Otto to stay in his guest bedroom. When Otto discovers that there is a wallet in his back pocket that contains information about his past, before he was dead, he begins to remember a few details, including memories of his ex-boyfriend, Rudolf. He arranges to meet him at the schoolyard where they met, with devastating results.

Anyone out there appreciate this film? This Del Toro film took me to a different level of horror and despair. It's not for the meek, but I loved it. I am enchanted by the way it meanders along, deliberately testing you. What this film should perhaps be heralded for is the way it mixes up emotions- one minute you're in suspense, the next you are dragged over to a completely different set of emotions. While that may not be a new concept, I think this was carried through beautifully.
Any fans of Most Haunted would probably like it. Be prepared for more than the usual offerings of subliminal horror. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, well, this one takes it to the next level. It has the same sort of feeling, but less "fantastic" and more cerebral. That's my opinion. Cheers, ni

I just watched Wind Chill staring Emily Blunt. I thought it was clever and classic at the same time. She did a terrific job, as usual. As did her co-star, who I was unfamiliar with, and name of whom I can't remember. Anyone else seen this and whaddaya think?

++ Dead Guys Cinema MAJOR RIP-OFF: "The Handyman" ++

I rarely post here, but this just made me so angry, I decided I needed to warn all the gay horror fans I could.

Dead Guys Cinema specializes in the making and selling of "guys in peril" films, an answer to all those endless women in peril movies.

To summaries their movies: low, low, production values, poor direction. incoherent scripts where gay guys wearing underwear, sometimes nude, are murdered, often in very (fake-looking) bloody ways, and the DVDs are *way* over-priced.

I own a couple of DGC films because I am very interested in and enjoy gay horror. As I said, I've bought a couple of their DVDs and watch some more through Netflix.

Now normally I would never buy one of their movies again. As I said, they are *way* over-priced, especially considering what you get for your money. But I had a good discount special through tlavideo (www.tlavideo.com) so among a number of film I bought, I also got Dead Guys Cinema's THE HANDYMAN.

When I buy a film I consider 1) the quality, 2) the running time, 3) the price, and 4) how much I want it. With THE HANDYMAN, I decided to buy it because I could get it for about $22 (it's regular price is $35(!)) and the production info said it was 120 minutes long.

So I watched it about 4 days ago now. And the next day I called tlavideo, asked for refund, explained why I wanted a refund, and they happy gave me a refund! I eagerly sent the DVD *back* to them on Saturday the 1st.

My reason: "THE HANDYMAN" MOVIE IS ACTUALLY **44 MINUTES** LONG! It is NOT 120 minutes; it is no where near 2 hours. It isn't even 45 minutes long!

(By the way, there is NO running time information on the DVD cover itself.)

I am fairly certain what DGC did. The included the running time of the disc's Extras - including over 20 minutes of extended death scenes, oh joy! and previews of their other films, which were not previews but just long, boring 4-5 minute scenes from more of their films.

This is a cheat; this is a lie; this is NOT right.

The running time of film on a DVD is the running time of *the film* itself. The Extras are NOT counted as part of the running time! And DGC counted the Extras as part of the running time. Wrong, cheaters!

I've been contacting the online sites that sell THE HANDYMAN and telling them of the actual running time of 44 minutes. After a day or two of that, I emailed Dead Guys Cinema (which had the 2 hours running time for THE HANDYMAN at their site) and told them what I was doing and why. I'm posting here now and I'll be posting elsewhere as well.

I have a long history of being a big fan of gay-related Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. I've been involved in organizing it as well and getting it further introduced into general fandom. I care about the field.

So when some stupid bastards try to pull as big a rip-off as THE HANDYMAN, I get seriously pissed. And I do something about it.

I rented and watched three movies tonight. I am such a sequal queen!

1. White Noise 2.
Yeah they made a second one. Kinda Christian oriented, but I enjoyed it, I'll be afraid to look out of a window at night for a while....damn dead people always looking in windows.

2. Boogey Man 2
run of the mill thrasher flick with an " I'm sooooo much more fucked up than you" group therapy thing, I'm renting The Breakfast Club next time I wanna see a movie like that. Molly Ringworm is 10X more scary. Some nice naked moments, with beautiful actors.

3. Bad Blood
A Portugese film about superstition and possestion. So much God I felt like I was in church.....but It had me interested the whole way, It was original and at times very freaky. Subtitled. There is a really hunky guy who doesn't have a single line, but shows up in the movie a few times. If you can do subtitles, I recommend this one.

If it wasn't for the video game "boss", it KICKED ASS!!!!!

There are too many really good moments to count, and it was reminiscent of Hitchcock, Romero, and XMEN, go figure.

I recommend it, but not to any one who expects a horror movie to "original", ie some previous posts.......:)

So I have this tradition... for the entire month of October....
me and my buddies get together and watch old horror flix.
Sometime we pick based on genre, ( Zombies,Vampires, etc.)
director, ( Argento,Bava,Castle, etc.) or decade This year we're
watching a few Hammer Classics ( Damn I miss ' Bob Wilkin's
Creature Feature !! ' ) and some Vincent Price gems. So far we've seen:

The Devil Rides Out
Plague Of The Zombies
Witchfinder General aka General Worm
Theater Of Blood
Dracula Has Risen From The Grave
Capt. Kronos Vampire Hunter
Mask Of The Red Death
Premature Burial
I Monster
Fall Of The House Of Usher
The Satanic Rites Of Dracula
The Pit & The Pendulum

Anyone have any suggestions?
They don't have to be Hammer films.
Basically we're open to watching anything
from the 60's and 70's. Last week we saw Omega Man. LOL!
Wow! Dig those fonky fros on them zombies!

What do you guys do for Halloween?

I cannot recommend this movie more highly. just saw it this weekend and i dont know what i was waiting for. I was knocked out by the first one and im very wary of horror sequels, but it is zombies afterall.... they really out did themselves w/ the whole post-apocolyptic london scenario. they amped up the gore, they amped up the action and dammit, i LOVE that zombies finally got a clue and got fast! or is it just the "rage virus"????

Well, I thought I'd give some 'modern horror' films a try and
these looked interesting but...yawn...so fucking unbelievable.

Like the internal reality, the reality the movie wants you to believe, is inconsistent.

The Hills being the worst of the pair...
Your a cop why would you not see that these people are shady and go back to the trailer?
How could you not hear that person sneaking up on you, just because the camera angle excludes him. Why rig up this complex totally system to blow up the trailer when you
could just sit on top and fucking pick these guys off?
Etc.
Etc.

I know it takes a LOT of work and countless hours and a thousand people all interacting to create a movie (of this kind) but sheesh...put some thought into it.
Sad.

1970s Witch movie...Can anyone help me?

I need help.
I have been researching and trying everything I can, but am getting nowhere.

When I was about 8 or 9 I saw a movie late at night on TV and remember it vividly,
but have never been able to find out any info about it as an adult. I believe that it
was made in the 70s, but because I saw it on TV it could possibly be from the 60s.
For all I know...it could actually have been a TV Movie which is why i am having so
much trouble. I am a huge Horror fan and know 1000s of movies, plots, etc...but this
one has bugged me for years. I have never even been able to find anyone else who
even vaguely remembers it. Come on guys...someone out there has to have seen this
one. Can anyone help me? I feel like I am going insane...

Here are the plot points that I remember:

A woman and her husband move to a new town and she has a newborn.
There is a strange door in the basement with marks (possibly blood) on it?
The woman wakes late at night to witness a ritual in a ravine or quarry with a pig.
The woman starts investigating the town and starts snooping in things that she shouldn't.
She suspects witchcraft and devil worship and innevitabley discovers that even her best
friend is in on it.
Theres a scene with the townspeople in pilgrim-type costumes. They pin her to the ground
and place that door from earlier on top of her. They take her baby away from her and begin
to pile stones on the door to crush her as a torture. I remember she wakes up alone in the
field and the door and everyone are gone.
The rest of the movie is fuzzy in my memory until she witnesses another ritual where her
husband kills a pig and then I remember the end for some reason:
She is in a public park with her baby and a policeman rides up on a horse and speaks to her.
When she looks up...it's her husband.
I have memories of various other scenes, but only flashes and small details. If anyone recognizes
this...please let me know. I have almost decided that I imagined the whole thing.

A buddy of mine and I did (after finding a show NOT sold out). It was definitely a Rob Zombie film - that's easy to see. But over all I think he did a very decent job. He kept the basics and, more importantly, kept the music. I liked it and recommend it for you horror and Halloween fans. My newphew read that Rob doesn't intend to make a follow-up (though I'm sure his sequel would be better than the original one).

So what did you all think?

So I just saw the previews for the new "Halloween" movie. From the previews it looks as if it is a remake of the original Halloween, does anyone know for sure? If it is a remake the standards will be extremely high since the original is a classic, I hope they don't kill it with this remake.

Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll

A synopsis given to journalists at the press conference mentioned above read:

“ Victorian England.
A haunted writer in an isolated castle is tormented by sleepless nights and visions of a girl named Alice. He finds himself becoming a symptom of his own invention.

“Now all my nightmares know my name.”

He is Lewis Carroll. Terrified of what waits for him each night.
”

Manson has stated his aim for the project is to “redefine the horror genre” and bring it back to the days of “Polański and Hitchcock”. He is also been linked with other projects such as Alejandro Jodorowsky’s King Shot and an as yet untitled film with Tilda Swinton. Swinton will also play Manson's dream wife in the movie.

Manson stated in June 2006 that he sees himself “as more a student of film than of music”[1] and after Phantasmagoria is planning a trilogy of films retelling three Edgar Allan Poe stories.

Rare that I'm freaked by a film, and this was FUN!!! Great special effects makeup on the main baddie, who's a ghoslty ventriloquist, from hell. Super-model Amber Valetta plays a supporting role. She's been in quite a few thrillers/horrors tha past few years, starting with What Lies Beneath. Hmmm, Genre slut anyone?

What The Hell Is This?

I have a clip I recorded years ago of a70's horror film that I don't know the name of.
In the scene it has these kids...who I think are aliens...who show up at this womans
house one night in Halloween costumes. We she sees them face to face
they remove their masks...a weird synth drone happens and the screen
changes color and the kids have some seriously jacked up teeth. It looks
to me like it's from the 70's. Probably not a big hit either. It looks very
much like a B-film.

Anyone have any idea what this film is? I'd love to see it in it's entirety

Sin-Jin Smyth

Sin-Jin Smyth is a 2007 horror film written and directed by Ethan Dettenmaier, based on an old legend inspired by the Kansas Stull Cemetery. The story involves the Devil simultaneously appearing in two places, the high plains of India and a Kansas cemetery, every Halloween at midnight. However, on November 2nd ("The Day of the Dead"), two Federal Marshals report to a Shin Bone, Kansas jail to transfer a prisoner known simply as Sin-Jin Smyth during a tornado warning. The film stars professional wrestler Roddy Piper, Jonathan Davis (vocalist of the nu metal band Korn), Richard Tyson, and Jacqueline Moore. Sin-Jin Smyth also co-stars Kevin Gage, Camden Toy, Billy Duffy (guitarist of the hard rock band The Cult), Jenna Jameson and Charles Cyphers.

The film was originally slated for release in late 2006, but had been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Although there has been speculation on whether the movie will be released, on January 25, 2007, IMDb revised the project status to "post-production" possibly indicating that development has continued and the finishing touches are currently being added.[1]
I just checked Watership Down out from my local library and am watching it now.
I was going to pay $40 dollars Amazon...before i found it there.
Anyways,
I can't *believe* I saw this at the theatre when I was a wee-little crumb snatcher!
No wonder I've got such a death-oriented life.
(which I'm enjoying very much, by the way.)

I've disappeared from this board for a long time. I'm so happy to see that it's still going strong. I thought I'd give this a shot...I'm moving to LA in early September and I just wanted to see if there were any cool horror loving homos out there. I won't feel fully content about the re-location until I meet at least one person who will obsess about things like Heather Langenkamp, Herschell Gordon Lewis, and/or FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES with me! Drop me a line if you're out there.

Hey,

Has anyone caught any of the films on Showtime's HORRORFEST? There are three in particular that really got under my skin: UNREST, PENNY DREADFUL & WICKED LITTLE THINGS. There are nine films in all, and you can order them on demand for free (eight of them come as double features).

I'm always looking for something that truly creeps me out and, although there's a lot of fun stuff out there right now, the three previously mentioned had me on edge all night, which NEVER happens to me.

Sweet dreams,
Tarik

...I finished up working on a short queer horror flick not too long ago. "Imp of Satan". Set to premiere over at the Red Vic on Haight Street around June 30th.

trailer: youtube.com/watch
web: myspace.com/imp_of_satan

Anyway - should be some fun. I know I'll be there - prolly a bit tipsy. ;-)

My understanding is that they are going to have an emcee, door prizes, some entertainment and they will be showing the gag reel (after the flick).

If anybody is interested, I'll update this post with more of the particulars.

What does everybody think of Rob Zombie's movies?

I am bored at work and hoping to generate conversation.

I seem to be one of the only hardcore horror fans (at least I like to consider myself one--I've paid my dues!) who loves Rob Zombie's films without any strong reservations. HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS *did* pay homage to the great horror films of the '70s extensively--but they did not, in my opinion, cross the fine line into rip-off. They were as effective, to me, as some of the better films of that era. Also, HOUSE is a helluva lot of fun--I will love any director who puts Karen Black in a theatrically wide released horror film.

So I love'm--and I'm sure that some will strongly disagree. I look forward to hearing any and all opinions :)

I enjoyed it, the CGI was a bit bad, but all in all I liked the movie. They brought back enough old charecters and maintained the Pumpkinhead vengence is a bad idea theme.

SOCKET - New Gay Horror/Sci-fi flick

Hello gays! Check out this new feature film that we finally finished - it's called SOCKET, and it's the first (we think) full on gay sci-fi flick. (Obviously not the first gay horror flick...)

Here's the trailer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=mLczQYdi058

The trailer contains MALE NUDITY - NSFW!

And you can find out tons more about the film here - www.darkbluefilms.com. There are tons of photos, cast bios, production blog, etc.

Just so you know, the production team, and most of the actors, are all out gay guys and chicks. (Plus one transexual actress - Alexandra Billings!)

We've just finished, so we're about to take the film to distributors - fingers crossed we'll have a deal in place soon!

I'd love to hear what you folks think about the trailer - feel free to drop me a line!

SOCKET synopsis: Bill (Derek Long) is a surgeon who is incapacitated after being struck by lightning on the beach. As he recuperates in the same hospital where he works, he meets Craig Murphy (Matthew Montgomery), a mysterious, handsome young intern who recognizes a kindred spirit in the surgeon - he, too, has been struck by lightning. After relating his own tale to Bill, including the strange cravings he developed after the accident, Murphy invites him to a meeting of "people just like us," promising that Bill will find what he craves with the others.

After much resistance, Bill finds himself drawn to the group meeting. Barely able to drag himself to the address, Bill finds a group of people, all lightning strike survivors, all with an insatiable appetite for electric current as a drug. With Murphy as a guide, Bill immerses himself in the group, and in a relationship with the seductive intern. As Bill's recovery from the lightning strike gains momentum, so does his body's increased capacity for electric shocks. Bill, Murphy, and the group "juice up" with more frequency and more voltage as the weeks go by.

Finally, driven by his new addiction, Bill discovers a way to insert "sockets" (the wall type) and "prongs" (extension cord type) into the wrists of the group members. Now they can mainline electric current, or jack into each other to form circuits.

A random encounter with a mugger results in the accidental death of the attacker courtesy of the "prongs" in Bill's wrist being jammed into the base of the man's skull. The electrical impulses that control the human body download into the surgeon, and now Bill has found a new level to his addiction....

While I had some issues with parts of the story,
It was genuinely scary and successfully created
a very creepy atmosphere! The film looks great and
I enjoyed the ride. The ending was so so. But all in all
I really liked it. Has anyone else seen or heard of this flick?

Heya, I'm Mel :P This is a freaking awsome tribe, and glad I discovered it :D I've been watching horror movies, for like.. ever :P My favriot series is Hellraiser, and The Eye.
I just got done watching the entire Re-Animator series, and it is AWESOME!
If you never seen it, it's about a scientist who invents a serum that re-animates dead tissue. It isn't a typical zombie flick. It more on the lines of.. I guess Resident Evil?

Oh yeah, and the song that goes with it is awsome, too :) www.youtube.com/watch

www.imdb.com/title/tt0089885/

The whole series is extreamly gory. If you like blood and guts in almost every other scene, this is the movie to watch :D

First of all, awesome tribe. It's about time! haha
I'm Johnny and my newest film "Scruff" may be of interest to some of you; it's extreme underground experimental horror with lots of heavy metal/punk music with some GOOD LOOKING rock n roll, pierced guys in a series of situations. It's a compilation of short films on a DVD; definately for the 18 and over crowd and not "cheesy" like typical gay horror (I won't mention any names haha). You can check out the films trailer by going here:

http://www.johnnyterris.com/scruff.html

Thought this was a good place to post; it would be cool to meet some other gay dudes into horror film.
I'm a big fan of the Italian horror genre myself and my work tends to reflect that. Argento is like GOD to me haha.
Again, drop me a line if you want, I love meeting new folks.
Cheers,
Johnny.

A whole bunch of seemlessly photoshopped peices of his body (mostly assholes) stuck together into a slightly recognizable human form is my kind of art!!

Frostbiten is a Swedish vampire movie, the trailers for it made it look like a very good horror, so I bought it, well it is actually a horror comedy... but I must admit that aside from the fact it is a horror comedy the effects are absolutely amazing!!! I did enjoy the movie and am quite glad I now own it in my collection.
P.S if you like bunny rabbits I don't recommend you watch it ;)

What horror movies have you watched in honor of the Halloween season?

I love Halloween and, from the Friday before until the day itself, I make sure to watch nothing but horror movies! So far I've seen a lot of weird and wonderful things!

MURDER MANSION: I can't stop thinking about this bizarre European horror film. It is your typical "a group of strangers end up at a mysterious house, whose beautiful hostess looks suspiciously like the young version of the old, scary woman in portrait above the fireplace" movie. There are also a couple of zombies roaming around in the foggy graveyard next door. For the first hour there's the usual Euro-soap-opera trashy plot, most of which doesn't seem to have to do with anything (but the outfits, hairstyles, and atmosphere are GREAT!) and then the last half hour packs a wallop, with some genuinely scary imagery, and a bunch of great things like secret passageways and floating glowing heads in closets. LOVED it.

SISTERS OF DEATH: A *horrid* '70s pre-cursor to HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW about a sorority initiation gone horribly wrong. Seven years later, the CHARLIE'S ANGELS influenced sisters get invited to a house in the desert for a reunion, locked in behind an electric fence, and picked off one by one. One of the worst, most entertaining horror movies I've ever seen. When the girls find out that there's a murderer on the loose, they could care less--they go to bed. One insists on taking a shower, telling her ambivalent friend "If cleanliness is next to godliness, then when I take a shower God will be close to me and the murderer won't get me!" What?

WITCHERY: A classic piece of late '80s euro-trash that actually scared the hell out of me when I saw it on HBO when I was little. There's a lot to appeal to gay horror movie fans here: German diva-of-the-'60s Hildegarde Knef plays an ominous witch who dresses sort of like Stevie Nicks who haunts an abandoned hotel. A greedy, opportunistic family comes to her island to look into buying the hotel, and they run into David Haselhoff (!) and his virginal girlfriend, who is writing a book on witches light. There are gory murders and LOTS of bad acting. The woman who plays Hasselhoff's girlfriend is the worst ever--I'm in love with her. There's also, oddly, some genuinely creepy atmosphere. I gather that this was made during Linda's alcoholic period. In a recent interview she said "I've never seen it--but I hear it's very Fellini-esque!" Um...sort of?

NIGHT OF THE DEMON: A Jacques Torneur film that, although it did not live up to CAT PEOPLE and CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, is still beautifully filmed and creepy, with a charming, witty satanist as its lead villain and a few scenes that actually did make my spine tingle. Not to be confused with the classic Linnea Quigley disaster.

HAXAN: WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES: I had never seen this classic, shocking film from the early '20s, which has some of the most amazing supernatural imagery I've ever seen. Watch out for the woman giving birth to demon monster babies and a convent of nuns going hysterical that Ken Russell obviously borrowed heavily from in THE DEVILS. In spite of some unintentionally funny parts (William Borroughs as narrator says "We don't burn old women anymore." His narration, obviously, wasn't in the original version.)

BELL, BOOK, AND CANDLE: I didn't love this film the first time I saw it--but I watched it as part of an all-night witch movie marathon at a local theater and completely loved it. Kim Novak plays a New York beatnick witch who wants to make Jimmy Stewart fall in love with her. Elsa "Bride of Frankenstein" Lanchester *steals the show* as her wacky aunt, and Jack Lemmon struck me as sort of queer as her adorable, bongo playing brother. This one *really* made mw ant to go back in time. Herminone Gingold is also delightful as the head-beatnick-witch, and there's a delightful supernatural catfight in a beatnick nightclub involving the song "Stormy Weather." Perfect.

SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT: Mary Woronov, Candy Darling, and Ondine in a great, spooky pre-cursor to BLACK CHRISTMAS in which the people in a local town are lured to a former madhouse and killed. It has great imagery and really creepy atmosphere. Mary Woronov is fascinating because she's so...normal in it.

THE WITCHMAKER: I didn't even know what to make of this bizarre '60s drive-in trash about satanists and college students and a cabin and...I don't even know what exactly it was about but there were boobs, blood, puffs of purple smoke, and I was drunk at 3 a.m. by this point so I liked it.

THE HAUNTED PALACE: I LOVE the Vincent Price/Roger Corman/Edgar Allen Poe movies, but this was not one of my favorites.

HORROR OF THE ZOMBIES: Last night I watched the first half of this, the third entry in Armand Ossorio's BLIND DEAD series. It involves supermodels on a ghost ship being stalked by the Templar Nights and, judging from the first half, it's amazing. A perfect combination of glamour and genuinely atmospheric creepiness. I love those Templar Knights.

God--I don't know how I had time to watch all of this shit. So what've you been watching??

Hey all,

I'm doing some research into horror films where the killer has some kind of gender dysphoric issue [i.e., the tranny did it]. Haute Tension's ending worked my last nerve on this issue. I know i've seen many over the decades but would appreciate it if you could give me some other titles. I'm working on a script for a film short. I'm hoping to twist this whole genre around with my own queer take on it.

Thx

BUT I did like it. There was a certain camp quality to it. I LOVED the
lead actress! ( Agnes Bruckner ) Patricia Clarkson was pretty good too.
Very creepy! Lot's o' fun!!
http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/730

The trailor/teaser isn't much. But wondering if any one else has heard about this.

50-Movie CHILLER DVD pack

Does anybody have it? It is so tempting to pick up these vaults of trashy old public domain movies. I especially want to get my hands on the inevitable selection of '70s TV movies and gems like SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT that are contained therein. Do any of you have any of them? Are the prints THAT horrible? I have a few other public domain DVD sets and the qualities tend to vary so wildly.

I've been looking for this all my life!

I just stumbled upon this amazing group, so I wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

My name is Ben, and I've been obsessed with horror films since about 1987 when my mom rented me POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE (which, maybe purely for nostalgic reasons, I still love). I *really* wanted to rent WAXWORK because the poster at the video store was so cool--but she wouldn't let me because it was rated R (it took me about a week to wear her down on that one!).

Some of the movies that I love most are the cliches like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, CARRIE, DRESSED TO KILL, TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, SUSPIRIA, BLACK SUNDAY, BLACK CHRISTMAS, HALLOWEEN, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE BEYOND, THE FLY (I love them both--but the Cronenberg version is one of my all-time favorites. Never met a Cronenberg movie I didn't like.) and BASKET CASE (everybody names them for a reason!) Other favorites are LISA AND THE DEVIL, CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, THE SEVENTH VICTIM, LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH, CARNIVAL OF SOULS, 2,000 MANIACS, INFERNO, BLACK SABBATH, DEEP RED, HORROR EXPRESS, THE TINGLER, WHOEVER SLEW AUNTIE ROO?...the list will just go on and on forever so I might as well cut myself off.

Nothing warms my heart like extremely dated, excessively "hip and trendy" horror flicks of the '70s and '80s such as A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER, VAMP, PROM NIGHT (hell, parts 1 through 3), NOCTURNA, and THE HOWLING 2: YOUR SISTER IS A WEREWOLF (aka STIRBA: WEREWOLF BITCH, one of the best titles ever).

Also, might as well get this right out in the open, I think that EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC is hugely underrated.

I look forward to meeting everybody.

TCM Movie Sale

Hey. I'm a subscriber to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) newsletter - I like old movies. And every October they show some good, old b/w horror movies. Anyway, the latest newsletter had info about their "vampire" week during Halloween. And one part is a link (pasted below) that lists a LOT of horror movies on DVD for sale (some old and some new) - even has Black Christmas (I'll probably order that one myself). Most movies are priced under $12.00 with a few that are more. And the list is impressive!

Here's the link:
http://turnerclassic.moviesunlimited.com/special_list.asp?site_id=0&sid=bd&n=1

Thought I'd share. Might be a chance to beef up the collection at decent prices.
